VERU 2026 OLD KOTTAYAM HERITAGE WALK
Walk lead: Pallikkonam Rajeev
(Secretary, Kottayam Nattukoottam)
This walk is the second part of a two part series that offers a glimpse into the early chapters of the princely state of Thekkumkoor.
Highlights: From ancient routes that shaped commerce to sacred landmarks within Kottayakam (inside the fort), once the Thekumkoor capital and fort.
Kottayam Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple, the Thazhathangady Juma Masjid, Kottayam Valiya Palli and Kottayam Cheriya Palli.
Along the way, stories of Gauda Saraswatha, Muslim and Christian settlements unfold, revealing a town whose long history of trade, learning and openness has today carried its people far beyond its borders.
